How Much Caviar Per Person?

The standard serving size is 30-50 grams per person, but the right amount depends on the occasion. An answer-first guide to sizing your caviar order.

Guidance from The Caviar Guy concierge team.

Decide the occasion: For a dedicated caviar tasting, plan for 30 to 50 grams per person. If you are serving caviar as a garnish or small appetizer alongside other dishes, 10 to 15 grams per person is sufficient.

Apply the per-person gram range: When caviar is the star of the show, guests will likely want two or three substantial bites. A 30g tin is perfect for one person, while a 50g tin comfortably serves two for a light tasting or one for a generous indulgence. For canapés, a single gram or two per piece means a 50g tin yields 25 to 30 composed bites.

Pick the right tin size: Match your total gram count to a standard tin: a 30g tin serves 1 person generously; 50g serves 2 for a tasting or 4 as a garnish; 125g suits 3–4 for a tasting or 8–10 as an appetizer; 250g is a centerpiece for a dinner party of 6–8; 500g is event station quantity for up to 35–50 guests.
